IL COLORE

L'Amaranto è un colore tra il rosso scarlatto e il cremisi (per certi versi accostabile al granata, ma più rossastro), tipico dei fiori dell'Amaranto, pianta ornamentale del genere della famiglia delle Amarantacee (Amarantus caudatus) con infiorescenze a spiga di colore rosso scuro, comunemente detta "erba meraviglia"

IL FIORE

"Lunga è la tradizione che considera l'amaranto una pianta sacra. Il nome Amaranto deriva dal greco amarantos e cioè "che non appassisce". Di qui il significato attribuito ad esso dai Greci di pianta dell'amicizia, della stima reciproca e più in generale espressione di tutti i sentimenti veri che non dovrebbero mai cambiare con il trascorre del tempo, in quanto eterni e unici. Nella mitologia greca si narra che le Dee amassero essere festeggiate con ghirlande di amaranto; in tale contesto l'amaranto era dunque utilizzato per ottenere protezione e benevolenza. I romani attribuivano all'amaranto il potere di tenere lontana l'invidia e la sventura. Nel periodo '600-'800 l'amaranto veniva utilizzato per ornare vestiti e abiti, in quanto si pensava fosse in grado di donare benessere fisico."
